To mark our first anniversary, we decided to stay in Atlanta for a change and after 4 months of going around in Florida, we thought it was time to explore our own backyard. A few clicks on the internet and 2 hours from home, we reached the quaint town of Blue Ridge at the base of north Georgia Mountains, the state’s highest mountain range. After wandering around the souvenir shops and charming cafes, we headed on to the Amicalola state park, with the 729-foot Amicalola waterfalls, the tallest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River.
The falls could be accessed by climbing a walkway which goes right from the bottom to the top of the falls or even more easily by driving the car to a parking area more than half way up the falls within walking distance to a platform which provides a closeup view of the falls.
